Update on Luke

I took Luke to the doctor on Tuesday and the antibiotics seem to be doing well. His breathing is good and Dr. Risinger said his chest and back sounded good. He has had some stomach trouble because of the antibiotic so we've had a few rough nights but nothing we can't handle. Thanks for all of your prayers! I hope everyone has a wonderful Christmas holiday!

Oh what a night...

Trey and I had to take Luke to the emergency room last night. Luke has been sick for a few weeks now, and couldn't seem to shake the cold he had. He ran fever again this weekend and when he woke up from his nap yesterday afternoon, he seemed like he had a little trouble breathing. I called the doctor, who told me to take him to the ER. Once at the ER Luke had a temp of 102. They did an RSV test and did chest x-rays to look for pneumonia. The RSV came back negative but he did have a small spot on his right lung and they ruled it as community acquired pneumonia. The doctor said it wasn't severe enough to have him hospitalized but he would have to go back on antibiotics. We returned home around 8pm, I got Luke to bed and around 9pm he woke up and had vomited and was shaking. We called and took him back to the ER where he had a temp of 104 (which was the cause for the shaking after they had given him Motrin a few hours earlier). He was given Tylenol and since they knew the cause for this (the pneumonia) there wasn't too much cause for concern. His temp came down. The doctor said he was in the gray area so he gave us a choice to either admit him or take him home. Well, I know I am not sound enough to make that decision on my own because I would have said, let's admit him. So I asked the doctor what he would do and he said if it were his child, he would take him home.
We got home around midnight last night and Luke slept well. The vomiting was from the antibiotics so he's on another medication to help keep the antibiotic down. He woke up this morning, hungry, but acting like himself which gives me peace of mind!
We will take him to the doctor tomorrow so they can see if the antibiotics are working.

Thanks so much for the text messages and calls to see how he was doing. It's a scary thing to take your child to the hospital and have no clue what is wrong with them. We are very fortunate to have such caring family members and friends. Please keep Luke in your prayers as we continue to get him well!

A Very Special Lady

On Wednesday we found out that my great Aunt Sarah had passed away from a battle with a mass on her lungs. She was 86 years old and lived a wonderful, full life. She was a light that always beamed and always had a smile on her face. She loved the Atlanta Braves and had a laugh what would make you crack up yourself! She never married but loved all of her nieces, nephew, and great nieces and nephews. I have a lot of fond memories of Aunt Sarah and in all honesty, she was like a grandmother to myself, Erik and cousin Johanna. It's sad to see her go but I know in my heart she is in a better place and she is rejoicing with the Lord. I am so glad she was here to meet Luke. She loved him so much and loved to see him. I hate that we weren't able to visit her more but when we did it was always so special. We went to Greenville on Friday for the funeral and although it was a sad time, it was very comforting to know she wasn't suffering anymore on this earth. She was a very loving woman who had such an innocence about her. She will be greatly missed. After the funeral, we all went to lunch at Liberty in downtown Greenville. As Trey said, it was very fitting, because it was right across the street from the church she was a member of and right behind the Greenville Drive baseball stadium. Two places, she loved the most!

I don't have many picutures of her and Luke because I didn't always have my camera with me but here is one that I found when Luke was about 4 months old.

Here is one of Sarah and Trey last Christmas. She had this one in her room.

So...I told you I'm not so good at this!

So, I have been such a slacker at the whole blogging thing! But, we have had a lot going on and since I found out that people acutally do read this thing, I figure I'd better get back to doing this! So, this is for you Uncle Steve!

Luke is officially 10 1/2 months old and I can't believe he'll be one year in just a month and a half! It's scary to think how quickly time flies by! Luke is doing so many new things now, it's unbelieveable! Luke is cruising everywhere. He loves pulling up on furniture and walks everywhere as long as he's holdin on to something. He's not quite ready to walk, like I thought he'd be. He'll let go of the furniture but once he realizes he's standing on his own, he'll gently plop himself on the floor! Luke is starting to say a few words and beginning to associate them with things. He can say Dada, baba, Mama, Hey, Yay, and he's starting calling my parents' cat, "itty". It is the funniest thing! He used to say "ee" when he saw the cat but now he's started saying "itty". Luke also loves the real telephone and remote. We tried to give him a remote that didn't work (we took the batteries out) but he always seems to find the real one and commence to changing the channels and turning the volume all the way up! Luke will even put the phone up to his ear and point the remote to the tv (can you tell what we do at home!).

As you know, Luke had tubes put in, on November 5 and has been doing really well with them! I am so grateful that they've been working the way they should! However, Luke can't seem to get over this cold he's had for a while. I swear we've been trying to set a record for the most visits to the doctor's office in a month! And yes, we're going back again on Monday to see what we can do to get him well for Christmas!

I am promising to do a better job at keeping this blog updated!
